I have had a burning sensation in my feet for a while and I thought it was raynauds syndrome but apparently not. I saw a GP today and he thinks it is sensory peripheral neuropathy. Has anyone heard of that or know anything about it. He was a bit vague. Unfortunately my GP who really knows me and who I trust completely injured himself skiing so I had to explain everything to this one. He said it was a possible side effect of hydroxychloroquine and suggested I might stop that and see what happened! I pointed out that as my RA was very well controlled I was reluctant to mess with the drugs unless I had to. I have left a message on the rheumy helpline and hope they get back to me soon. The way he was talking it sounded as if you just have to put up with it and take painkillers when necessary. I'd like a bit more investigation first. Surely there might be a way to stop it getting worse.
Hope you are all keeping warm

Hi Sue,

Sorry to hear about the burning feeling, you have in your feet. It is good, you have phoned the rheumy dept., they know much more than your ordinary GP. These days I never ask my GP anything about my RA. I am lucky to be able to call the rheumy nurses any time, and they nearly always phone back the same day.

My feet are very numb at night, lately it has been very bad, but I put it down to poor circulation, so wear knitted socks at night. My hubby suffers from neuropathy, but he is diabetic, and neuropathy is a very common side effect.

Perservere with an answer from the rheumy dept. I hope, there is an answer for you, that will help.

Hi all
Just had a call from the rheumy nurse. I have to stop my hydrox for 2 weeks and then go and see her to be 'investigated'Confused it is complicated by the fact that once my MRSA swabs come back clear I'm supposed to be having my bunion done. So will that now get put on hold? Why is life never straight forwardRollEyes

Hi Sue - sorry to hear of these extra complications - as you say "life is never straight forward" - let us know how things progress with your HDX - I'm on that and MTX and all is well so far, but forewarned is forearmed. I've been looking at my bunions recently and they are very pronounced so I may have to thing about the bunion op in due course too!... ho hum!

All best wishes - Sylvia xx

Well my appointment has come through - Friday morning. I'm very impressed it came so quickly. I've been off hydrox for 6 days and have noticed I am sleeping much better. For years I have been waking 3 or 4 times every night. I put it down to my age but for the last 3 nights I have slept right through. Very strange.
Hope you are all enjoying your Easter eggs.

Hi. I'm wondering if you have erythomelalgia. I have Raynaud's and this is apparently like the opposite of Raynaud's. I have drugs for my Raynaud's so if this is what you have then I hope it's treatable too. Both conditions can be secondary to RA. It really isn't just a disease of the joints is it? Many people look really sceptically at me when i say RA has damaged my blood vessels. I hope the link helps.

Thanks Naomi -I will look at that link. I saw my consultant but it was a waste of time really. She said she had never heard of hydroxy causing this problem, but as I was sleeping so much better I should try doing without it and see what happened. Apart from that she really didn't seem interested. Generally my RA is doing OK and that was all she was interested in. It really seems to be a case of 'suck it and see' so watch this space.
At least the sun shone this weekend. Roll on the spring.
